Attention: House Bill #1538

I was informed from a community member who spoke with Dan Griffey in regards to House Bill #1538. The chair, Rep. Roger Goodman would not allow it to be given a hearing.

Representative Goodman,

I am NAME, a resident of the Matlock community in Mason County. For two years, we have been fighting against a severe case of government corruption in our local fire protection district. Our community successfully initiated and conducted a recall of our three fire commissioners, only to have them resign and appoint friends and family into their seats so the misfeasance and malfeasance can continue without any oversight or accountability.

Representative Dan Griffey’s bill HB 1538 clarifies prosecutory authority for cases of misfeasance for special purpose districts and we insist that his bill get a hearing. We have fought for over two years for some relief from the pillaging of our fire protection dollars and resources. We have followed all legal means for seeking protection and resolution including involving our state legislature.

PLEASE SCHEDULE A HEARING FOR THIS BILL. Our community members and our local county and state elected officials deserve an opportunity to testify on the impacts of this gross and willful misfeasance of our fire commission and the struggle we have had trying to get a local, state or federal jurisdiction to intervene and prosecute the offenders. It’s time to close the loophole and provide legal grounds for prosecution.

I look forward to your response and to receiving a scheduled date and time for the bill hearing.

Sincerely,

NAME
